How CadPeek Works
A simple workflow designed for non-technical users who receive CAD files from engineers or contractors.
Five-step workflow
- 1
Upload or drop your file
Open the viewer and upload a DWG or DXF drawing. Architectural, MEP, and shop drawings are all supported.
- 2
Browser parses locally
By default, your file is processed in the browser using WebAssembly CAD engines. Nothing is uploaded unless you click Share.
- 3
Explore text & layers
The side panel lists every text label with X/Y coordinates. Filter key discipline layers and toggle visibility.
- 4
Measure & review
Use pan, zoom, and measure tools to check distances on site no AutoCAD license required.
- 5
Export or share
Export text annotations to Excel for audits. Create a share link so clients or inspectors can view the same drawing.
Who uses this workflow?
Contractors receiving shop drawings from design institutes, building owners reviewing submittals, engineers checking layouts, and inspectors verifying dimensions on site — all without installing AutoCAD on every machine.
Common roles
- · Field crews measuring distances from live CAD geometry
- · Estimators exporting device tags to Excel for bid checklists
- · Project admins sharing view-only links instead of email DWG attachments
- · BIM coordinators converting DWG to DXF before Revit link
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to open a DWG file?
- Most shop drawings under 15MB open in a few seconds on a modern laptop. Larger files on paid plans may take longer depending on entity count.
Is my file sent to the cloud by default?
- No. Parsing runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Cloud upload only occurs when you click Share to create a view-only link.
Can I search for device tags like SD-101?
- Yes. The text panel lists every TEXT and MTEXT label. Use keyword search to find device tags, room names, and spec references instantly.
Does it work without an account?
- You can open and review drawings without signing in. Register for share history, larger files, Excel export, and subscription features.
What browsers are supported?
- Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari (recent versions). WebGL is required for canvas rendering enabled by default on desktop and tablet.
Can I measure distances on the drawing?
- Activate the measure tool and click two points on the CAD geometry. Results use drawing units — more accurate than measuring scaled PDF prints.
How do share links work?
- After upload for sharing, recipients open a browser link with the same pan, zoom, layer, and text tools no AutoCAD license on their side.
